Some kids draw on restaurant placemats; I would write stories. 

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, I’ve spent most of my career in science journalism, writing and editing articles about the latest research and what it means. I’ve written for consumer health news (Reuters), science magazines (Scientific American and Discover), publications read by scientists and clinicians (Nature, Science, and trade magazines for physicians). I spent years as the editor of Retraction Watch, conducting investigative journalism that focused on academia, academic publishing, and scientific misconduct.

I also write personal essays about Covid, caregiving, grief, and loss following the death of my parents.
